Symptom : How to reload (re-ghost) the DEK software using the discs supplied with the machine.
Cause (Simple): Hard drive failure, data corruption.
Remedy
/ Corrective Action :
The are two methods for reloading the machine's software, this depends on what version of DEK software is being used.
For version 07 SP04 and below use Method 1.
For version 07 SP05 and version 08 and above use Method 2.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Method 1 (<07 SP04):
The supplied CDs replace all the data on the hard disk (including Windows) in the event of a failure.
There are 2 modes of recovery:
Drive only. This will replace the Windows partition and leave the DEK data partition intact (products, calibration and DEK program software all reside on the DEK data partition).
Complete Disk. This will replace both the Windows partition and the DEK Data partition with know good data. You MUST backup products, inspection and calibration files BEFORE selecting this option
To start the recovery procedure:
Insert the DEK software base version (eg V07) CDROM and switch the machine on.
The machine will boot from CDROM and start the recovery program.
From here you can backup files and perform a Ghost recovery, ether only replacing the C: partition (Windows NT) or the entire disk (C: and D: partitions).
The Ghost recovery will take approximately 10 minutes and will schedule a harddisk check (CHKDSK) when completed.
Once the recovery procedure has been completed, the following will require setting:
The machine options (a configuration program will start on first boot, to guide you through this)
The touchscreen will require calibration (Infinity and Horizon only)
The time, date and locale in control panel will require setting.
Finally, if any service packs are available, these need to be loaded as well.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Method 2 (>07 SP05 and 08):
From 07 SP05 all calbration data, product files and machine keys are stored on the E drive. This files will not be overwritten when reloading the software.
To reload a service pack, terminate the DEK software and insert the DEK Software CD. It should autorun. Follow the instructions and reboot when prompted.
To reload the system software (which includes Windows), terminate the DEK software and insert the appropriate System Software CD. It should autorun. Follow the instructions and reboot when prompted. The C and D drives will be re-written. Follow the on-screen instructions and insert the DEK Software CD when prompted.
If any further service packs are available please load these as well.
_____
If there are still software problems after performing the above, please do the following:
Terminate the DEK software.
Back up all calibration data and product files from the E drive.
Delete the contents of the E drive.
Insert the appropriate System Software CD.
This will force a complete re-installation of all three partions on the hard drive.
Follow the on screen instuctions. When PostGhost runs, do not restore files; this may put corrupt files back on the machine.
Copy the machine keyfile and standard features file when prompted.
Insert the DEK Software CD when prompted and follow the on-screen instructions.
If any further service packs are available please load these as well.
The machine will now need to be recalibrated as per the technical reference manual.
