DAGE X-RAY SOFTWARE INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
** If the Dage x-ray software is to be re-installed, then use “add/remove programs”, and do not delete the Dage directory as this will lose the essential machine settings.
To install the digital x-ray software you first need:
a) Install the NextMove motion controller cards.
b) Install the NextMove drivers.
c) Install the Matrox Frame Grabber card
d) Install the Matrox drivers.
e) Install the Tube controller driver
f) Install the X-ray software.
Dage recommend that you install the NextMove and Matrox cards separately. If you install them at the same time then the <Found New Hardware> wizard will run twice, once for each card. This can cause a lot of confusion.
1. <Start>-- <My Computer>--- <Properties>--- <Hardware> --- <System Properties>--- <Device Manager> and then check if that there are no devices with a red cross or a yellow exclamation mark on them. This does not apply if the NextMove motion controller cards or the Matrox frame grabber card are already in the computer. In this case, for each card that is installed, there will be one or two “PCI Device” entries with a yellow exclamation mark in the “Other devices” section. There should be no other items marked with a red cross or a yellow exclamation mark. Next, close the <Device Manager> and <System Properties> windows.
2. The computer’s display must be set to a screen resolution of <1600 by 1200 pixels> and to the <Highest (32 bit)> color quality.
3. Installing the NextMove motion control cards and drivers
3.1 Install the NextMove cards in the computer.
3.2 Turn on the computer.
3.3 When Windows starts it will detect the new hardware and run the <Found NewHardware> wizard, it may take over to a minute before the wizard runs. When the<Found New Hardware> wizard screen appears click the <Cancel> button. A balloon help message will pop up in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, saying “A problem occurred during hardware installation.”, ignore it. If the NextMove card has previously been installed in the computer then the wizard may not run at all. In this case, go straight to step 4. If the Matrox Frame Grabber card is also in the computer then the wizard may run twice. In this case, cancel both instances of the wizard.
3.4 Install the NextMove drivers by double clicking on the NextMoveSetup MS-DOS batch file on the installation CD. When the batch file window opens press a key to continue the installation.
3.5 When a screen appears saying: <This will install NextMove PCI Device Driver for Window NT V1.0. Do you wish to continue?> click <Yes>.--- <Next>--- <Next>。
3.6 When the Setup Complete screen is reached select <Yes, I want to restart my computer now> and click <Finish>. The computer will now restart.
3.7 When the computer restarts the <Found New Hardware> wizard will run again. Carry out the procedure the next step for all instances of the wizard.
3.8 When the <Found New Hardware> wizard runs. Ensure that the X-ray installation CD is in the CD drive before running step 7. Select <Install the software automatically (Recommended)> and click <Next>.The wizard will now search for files. This may take some time.
3.9 If the wizard decides that the hardware device is a Genesis Vision Processor then it has found the Matrox frame grabber card, click <Cancel> and continue to step 9 using the other instance of the <Found New Hardware> wizard. A balloon help message will pop up in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, saying “A problem occurred during hardware installation.”, ignore it.
3.10 If the wizard fails to find any files and displays the <Cannot Install this Hardware>screen then it is trying to install the NextMove card. Ensure that <Don’t prompt me again to install this software> is selected and click <Finish>.
3.11 A balloon help message will pop up in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, saying “A problem occurred during hardware installation.”, ignore it.
3.12 The <Help and Support Center> will now run, click <Cancel> on the first screen and then click <Finish> on the second.
4. Installing the Matrox frame grabber drivers
4.1 Turn off the computer and install the Matrox Meteor II /Camera Link card. The camera cable must be plugged into the lower camera link connector (the one nearest the motherboard).
4.2 Turn on the computer.
4.3 When Windows starts it might detect the new hardware and run the <Found NewHardware> wizard, if it does click the <Cancel> button. A balloon help message will pop up in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, saying “A problem occurred during hardware installation.”, ignore it.
4.4 Install the Matrox and Genesis drivers by running the MatroxSetup MS-DOS batch file on the installation CD.When the batch file window opens press a key to continue the installation.
4.5 Move through the first three screens by clicking <Next> then <Yes> then <Next>.
4.6 On the <Matrox Imaging Driver> screen, select the Meteor II /Camera Link> and the <VGA> check boxes and click Next.
4.7 A message appears saying that “Mil Setup was unable to find the MGI setup program”. This is not a problem, so just click <OK>.
4.8 Click <OK>, <Yes>, <Next>, <Next>, <Next> to move through the next five screens.
4.9 On the <Matrox DMA Manager> screen select <Custom> and then type 32 into the <Type in the number of Mb> edit box that appears. Then click <Next>.
4.10 On the next screen click <Next>.Setup will now install the first part of the Matrox software.
4.11 When the <Installshield Wizard Complete> screen appears click <Finish>.This is only the finish of the first part of the Matrox installation. There is a second part to be completed yet.
4.12 On the next two screens select the <No> option and then click <Next>.
4.13 Click <OK> on the next screen. Setup will now install the rest of the Matrox Software.
4.14 Wait for the files to install then, on the final screen select <Yes, I want to restart my computer now> and click <Finish>. The computer will shut down and restart.
5. Checking the hardware installation
5.1 When the computer restarts, after installing the Matrox card the <Found New Hardware> wizard should not run again.
5.2 Open the System Properties window. This will say how much memory (RAM) is installed in the computer. This should be 32 MB less than the physical memory installed in the computer (the computers usually have 256 MB of memory installed, so this screen should usually read 224 MB of RAM).
5.3 Switch to the <Hardware> tab and click the <Device Manager> button.
5.4 In the <Device Manager> window, check that there is a <Matrox Imaging Adapter> section and that in this section there is a <Meteor II Camera link PCI frame grabber>device.
Also check that in the <Other devices> section there is a <PCI Device> with a yellow exclamation mark. This is the NextMove card.
5.5 Check that there are no devices with red crosses or yellow exclamation marks except for the yellow exclamation mark on the <PCI Device> in the <Other devices> section mentioned in item 4.
5.6 Right-click on the <PCI Device> in the <Other devices> section and select <Properties> from the menu that pops up. The <PCI Device Properties> screen will open. Check that it looks like this.
Note: Although Windows reports that the drivers for this device are not installed, this is normal and there is not a problem.
The <Location> item should display a <PCI Slot> number that corresponds to the PCI slot that the first NextMove card is plugged into. This is normally PCI Slot 3
5.7 Close the <PCI Device Properties>, <Device Manager> and <System Properties>windows.
6. Installing the grab application
6.1 The grab application is a simple program that grabs a live image from the image intensifier and displays it. It can also grab up to 64 frames, accumulate them and save the result in a tiff file. This application is not needed to use the X-ray software but may be useful for testing that the camera and the frame grabber are working correctly.
6.2 To install the grab application, run the GrabSetup file on the installation CD. In the command prompt window that opens, press a key to continue the installation.
6.3 Then press a key again to complete the installation. You can run the Grab application by double-clicking the <Grab> shortcut that has been installed on your desktop.
7. Installing the Tube controller driver
Note: This procedure requires a floppy disk containing the new Dage Tube Controller software which is usually supplied with the machine. However, an upgrade may be shipped as a CD only, in which case a floppy disk can be created from the CD. If the correct floppy disk is already available go to section 7.2, otherwise create a floppy disk using the instructions in section 7.1.
7.1 Creating a floppy disk from the CD:
Take a blank floppy disk, and insert it into the floppy drive of the computer. Open <My Computer> and right click on <3½ Floppy (A:)>. Then select <Format> from the pop-up menu that appears.
Select <Create an MS-DOS startup disk> and click <Start>.
Copy all the files from the appropriate Tube Controller folder onto the floppy disk. E.g. tocreate a version Vxx.xx upgrade floppy disk, copy all files from the “Tube Controller\Tube Vxx.xx” folder.
The floppy disk creation is now complete.
7.2 Upgrading the tube controller:

8.1.19 To run the X-ray software; double click the Dage X-ray icon that has been installed on your desktop

8.2 Essential settings:
a. Read this section completely first before proceeding as you may need to inspect inside the rear of the machine to determine the hardware fitted. Essential settings are those concerned with the primary configuration of the software. These settings identify the machine type and the various types of hardware that have been fitted. WARNING: SEVERE DAMAGE CAN OCCUR TO THE MACHINE IF THESE SETTINGS ARE INCORRECT.
b. Run the Dage software by clicking on the “Dage X-ray” icon. On a new installation, the <System Setup> tab should appear. However, if the software has recorded that these settings have already been made, the tab is hidden to prevent accidental alteration.
Note: If the Machine Initialization window appears instead, then the machine settings are already set.
If there is any doubt about these essential settings, for example, if the computer or the hard disk have been transferred from another machine, then the settings must be checked as follows:
1) Start the Dage X-ray application.
2) When the Initialization screen appears click <Cancel>.
3) Select engineer access level.
4) Select the <Options> screen.
5) In the Engineer access rights section, set <System setup screen> to <Yes>. The System setup screen will now be displayed.

   Setting procedure:
1. System type: Select the correct <System type> e.g. XD7500, XD6500 etc.
2. Serial number: Enter the last four digits of the serial number of the machine, e.g.
3. Intensifier: Only one option is current i.e.
4. Power supply: Select the correct High Voltage PSU, e.g.
5. Focus aid exists: Ensure this is selected as all digital systems have a focus aid.
6. Target indexer: Select this check box if the tube is fitted with a target indexer. See section 7.4.1.1 (page 83) for a picture of the system.(auto target turning system)
7. Screen diagonal length: Measure the diagonal length of the screen in mm and type it into this box.
8. When you have completed these settings, switch to the <Inspect> screen, the <Initialization> screen will appear. Click <OK> to initialize the machine as normal. Then close the X-ray software. Do not proceed to step 5.2 without closing and restarting the X- ray software.
8.3 Motion limits and calibration
The X-ray machine’s movement limits must now be found and it must be calibrated. To do this carry out the following steps:
8.3.1 Power up the machine and run the Dage X-ray software.
8.3.2 Click OK to initialize the machine and wait for the machine to finish initializing. The <Inspect> screen will appear.
8.3.3 Open the door and remove any calibration plate or sample holder from the machine. If you do not do this then the sample holder will hit the top of the X-ray tube when finding the Z limits.
8.3.4 Click on the <System Setup> tab (see section 5.1.7 - page 67).
8.3.5 Click on <Find Table XY limits> and wait for the message “All limits found” to be displayed. This will take several minutes.
8.3.6 Click on <Find Intensifier XY limits> and wait for the message “All limits found” to be displayed. This will take several minutes.
8.3.7 Click on <Find Z limits> and wait for the message “All limits found” to be displayed. This will take a few minutes.
8.3.8 Click <Save Limits> to save the limits.
8.3.9 Close the x-ray application and re-open it again. This ensures all of the new values are correctly loaded.
8.3.10 Calibrate the machine as described in section 7.6 (page 116).
8.3.11 Teach the position of the focus aid as described in section 7.5.4.2 (page 109).
8.3.12 Teach the image equalization position as described in section 7.5.4.3 (page 110).
8.4 Calibrating the image intensifier
With the introduction of automated BGA measurement on the XD series, it is necessary to make precise adjustments to the image intensifier settings. Due to manufacturing tolerances no two machines are identical and therefore the measurements performed on two different machines are likely to differ by a certain amount.
The two procedures described below set the image intensifier to the new accuracy required. In brief, the adjustments are:
8.4.1 Field of view. The particular build tolerances of each image intensifier affects the size of the picture on the screen.
Rotation:
A misalignment of the rotation of the intensifier will affect the ability of the software to correctly identify the balls in a BGA when analyzing them using multiple high-magnification pictures.
Note: This is a mechanical adjustment and will rarely require changing. Mechanical spacers (part number A4 ~ 801593) will be required if adjustment is required.
The two adjustments are calculated automatically whenever the machine is calibrated (section 7.6 page 116), the values are displayed on the calibration screen. If the value of the camera angle exceeds 0.5 degrees calculate the angle to the nearest 0.5 degree step and order the required number of spacers (part number A4 ~ 801593). Each spacer will provide ±0.5 degrees of rotation. E.g. for a rotation of 1.3 degrees 3 spacers should be ordered. Follow the steps below to fit the spacers.
8.4.2 Fit the intensifier cover plate (see section 3.2.5 - page 10 in manual). Take great care not to touch the image intensifier front dome.
8.4.3 To correct for positive values of rotation the correct number of spacers should be inserted between the intensifier and the bracket under screws A and B. Remove the screws labeled A and B and loosen slightly screws C and D. Slide the spacers into positions, and re-fit and re-tighten the screws. Please note for larger values of rotation longer screws maybe required.
8.4.4 To correct for negative values of rotation the correct number of spacers should be inserted between the intensifier and the bracket under screws C and D. Remove the screws labeled C and D and loosen slightly screws A and B. Slide the spacers into positions, and re-fit and re-tighten the screws. Please note for larger values of rotation longer screws maybe required.
8.4.5 Remove the intensifier cover plate.
8.4.6 Recalibrate the machine as described in section 7.6 (page 116 in manual).

9. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE – UPGRADING
When an upgrade is received, follow the procedure for installing the tube control computer software first. Then follow the procedure for installing the X-ray software
